CogniNets 2018
Welcome message from the chairs of CogniNets
It is our pleasure to welcome you to the inaugural workshop of the IEEE Workshop on Cognitive Networks (IEEE CogniNets 2018). The focus of this workshop goes beyond cro -layer optimization and the application of cognition at the physical layer, and expands to include the application of cognition acro all network layers. It comes in light of recent and synergetic advances taking place in in multiple fields, and that collectively allude at the po ibility of addre ing the Internet's increasing complexity. These include the development of in-network computing at its different tiers (cloud, fog, dew); softwarization of network elements and functions; the maturing of content-distribution and information-centric networks; and the advances in machine learning mechanisms. Through these, realizations of network cognitions can be achieved, i.e., network autonomy in a e ment, enhancement and evolution of its operation. The workshop's first instance is held in conjunction with the IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks (IEEE LCN), taking place during October 1-4, 2018 in Chicago, IL, USA. It features an exciting program with international contributions, including a keynote and a panel that touch on state-of-the-art happenings in the area. We are indebted to the CogniNets 2018 technical program committee and reviewers. Their timely input on the submi ions receive are a definite contribution to the workshop's succe . We also greatly appreciate LCN's steering and organizing committees for the opportunity to host the workshop. We also acknowledge in gratitude the extended support of LCN 2018 Workshop Chair, Hwee-Pink Tan, and Program Chairs, Soumaya Cherkaoui and Karl Ander on, We look forward to an engaging and informative workshop and conference. We also wish you a pleasant stay in Chicago. Abd-Elhamid M. Taha, Alfaisal University, KSA Najah Abu Ali, UAEU University, UAE
